Riviera Beach Police Department is investigating the death of a man who jumped into the intracoastal following a police pursuit

Riviera Beach – A man who refused to obey Riviera Beach Police orders to stop his vehicle near West Blue Heron Boulevard and Congress Avenue earlier today fled from the scene. After finally stopping in North Palm Beach, Florida, he ran from the vehicle and jumped into the intracoastal waterway.  Police officers tossed two life rings and a ladder into the water near the man.  However, he continued to tread water and refused to take hold of either of the offered items.  The man slipped underwater was later pulled out by members of the Palm Beach Gardens Police Dive Team.  He was pronounced dead at Palm Beach Gardens Hospital.

The man has been identified as Shein Shaw (DOB 3/8/77) of Riviera Beach.  Shaw attempted to ram at least one police vehicle today before coming to a stop.  He also attempted to run into another city police vehicle when he fled from a traffic stop two days earlier.
