A man was shot in the leg while walking near the Fremd Village public housing community around 7:40 p.m. today .

The man heard shots and later felt pain in his left leg, said Teri Barbera, Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman. He called his sister, who drove him to Lakeside Medical Center in Belle Glade for treatment.

The man, whose name was not immediately available, was later flown to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach for more treatment. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Deputies were searching the area this evening for information leading to the shooter.
