Shooter fires at car in Belle Glade, hits 6-year-old

A six-year-old is in the hospital this morning after someone fired several gunshots into the car he was in last night in Belle Glade.

Four people were in the car when the shooting happened about 11:37 p.m. on SW 7th Avenue, according to Palm Beach County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Teri Barbera.

The child was struck in the back near the shoulder and taken to Lakside Medical Center. The child was later moved to St. Mary’s Medical Center, Barbera reports this morning.

CBS 12 reports the boy was in a car driven by his aunt. She told the news station that someone walked up behind the car and began firing. Her 1-year-old child, who was also in the car, was grazed by a bullet. The baby was checked out by doctors and later released.

Meanwhile, the six-year-old boy remains in the hospital and has a bullet fragment in his back, near his shoulder, CBS 12 reports.

A description of the shooter was not yet available.
