Palm Beach County Sheriffs Office Detectives Are Investigating Fraudulent Use of Stolen Credit Information & Cards

On January 11, 2014, just after 4:00 pm, an unknown suspect entered Jim Abernathy’s Scuba Adventures located at 216 Federal Hwy, Lake Park and purchased over $ 5000 worth of merchandise using a forged credit card. The suspect presented a Pennsylvania DL. The first two cards used by the suspect were declined. The third card had to be manually entered as the credit reader could not read it. When the manager became suspicious the individual left with the merchandise. This has occurred at 20 other stores throughout South Florida; merchandise losses total more than $83,000. The story is always the same — There are always 1 or 2 Latinos (2 males and a female). One waits in the car and one or two come into the store. They seek out high value items such as cameras or computers and use a credit card which generally does not work the first time but they have others. Eventually one card will work although the number will have to be manually entered. They often drive a black Range Rover, Land Rover or a Chevy truck.
