Four Boynton teens accused of a six-day crime spree

Boynton Beach Police on Friday arrested four teenagers with guns who decided to go on a robbery spree, police said.

The teens, who range in age from 14 to 17, are accused of five armed robberies and an attempted armed robbery during a six-day period.

“Through the efforts of concerned parents and the diligence of these detectives, they were able to arrest four violent juveniles and save potential victims from serious injury or even death,” said police Sgt. Paul Sheridan.

Gary Finklea Jr., 17, Tydarius Williams and Decarius McCray, both 15, and a 14-year-old, all of Boynton Beach, are charged with numerous counts of robbery with a firearm. They were all sent to the Juvenile Assessment Center, police spokeswoman Stephanie Slater said.

The Sun Sentinel is not identifying the 14-year-old suspect because of his age and the nature of the charges.

According to police:

The first incident occurred at 11 a.m. on Jan. 13 when they attempted to rob a man on a bicycle in the 2200 block of Northeast Fourth Street. The suspects pointed a black handgun at the 56-year-old man’s head and demanded he stop. A witness screamed to the teens that she was going to call police and they left.

The next day, the teens robbed a couple who were walking around the Ezell Hester Park in the 1900 block of North Seacrest Boulevard. The teens pointed a handgun at the couple and demanded money. One of the victims handed over his wallet and the teens ran off.

On Jan. 15, the teens committed three robberies in three hours. It began around 4:30 p.m., when they pointed a gun in the face of an ice cream truck driver in the 100 block of Northeast 15th Avenue. They got away with less than $100 in cash.

The teens then confronted two other teens walking near the Ezell Hester Community Center. One of the suspects pointed a handgun at one of the teens and took his gold chain.

Around 7 p.m., the teens pointed a gun at a man walking near the racquetball courts at the Hester Center and took his cell phone.

The teens took a two day break and then around 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 18, they pointed a handgun at a 17-year-old man riding his Go-Ped scooter in the 100 block of Northeast 19th Avenue. They ran off with the $300 scooter.

During the investigation, detectives recovered a shotgun and a .38-caliber handgun in the home of one of the suspects. They also found stolen property belonging to the victims of the robberies.

Detectives are looking into the possibility that these teens are responsible for additional robberies.

Police ask anyone with information about these robberies to call Detective Midian Diaz, 561-742-6113, Detective Brian Anderson at 561-742-6115 or Detective Alex Moreno at 561-742-6138.
