Delray Beach Police Detectives are seeking the public’s assistance with information on a homicide that occurred in the area of SW 8th Avenue and SW 3rd Court.

After residents in the southwest section of the city reported hearing gunshots Saturday night, Delray Beach Police officers headed to the area of Southwest 8th Avenue and Southwest 3rd Court, where they found instead what appeared to be the aftermath of a single-car crash.

A black Chrysler 200 had evidently driven through a resident’s fence before crashing into a parked car in a driveway, pushing the car into a cement wall and a tree. The airbags had deployed. The rear window was smashed, and the front windshield was cracked. The driver was alive but was not able to talk. Thinking he may have been overdosing, responding officers administered the opioid reversal drug Narcan to the driver. Delray Beach Fire Rescue paramedics later discovered a small bullet wound in the back of his head.

Detectives identified the driver as Roy Criscione. The shooting happened at 10:20 p.m. June 2, just hours before his 29th birthday. DBFR transported him to Delray Medical Center where was pronounced dead Monday afternoon. The Palm Beach County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the gunshot was the cause of death. Detectives believe Criscione, originally from New York, had been living in his Chrysler in Delray Beach.
