Boca Raton Police are investigating an armed home invasion

On Friday, March 18, at just before 9:30 p.m., Boca Raton Police officers responded to a report of a home invasion robbery that occurred at 1599 SW 16 Street. The caller told dispatchers their neighbor, Dana Carvello, had been the victim of a home invasion robbery.

When officers arrived on scene, they met with Carvello and his girlfriend, Anita Molina, both whom had been in the house when the crime occurred. The victims told officers they had just arrived home from Mizner Park when Carvello went out the rear slider to smoke. While he was outside, three to five males approached Carvello and hit on the head several times then forced him back inside the house. The suspects, who were all armed with handguns, demanded jewelry and guns. The suspects tied up Carvello in the living room then forced Molina and their child into a bedroom. Carvello, who was briefly left alone, was able to escape the house and run to the neighbor’s, who called police.

The victims told police the males were black or Hispanic. All were wearing dark, long sleeve jackets, masks covering their faces, and gloves. The suspects left with an undetermined amount of jewelry and a Nintendo Wii. Carvello sustained injuries to his head and face for which he was treated and released from Boca Raton Regional Hospital. Neither Molina nor the child was injured.

When officers searched the residence they discovered the suspects were gone but located a marijuana “grow house” in the garage. Carvello told officers the marijuana was for personal consumption and the suspects never made any mention of drugs.

Carvello admitted to smoking marijuana in the house, which he shares with this girlfriend and their four year old child.

Officers arrested Carvello and charged him with cultivation of marijuana and child neglect.
