WEST PALM BEACH - A West Palm Beach man who dodged death on Easter Sunday wasn't so fortunate Monday night.
Investigators say that Kenny Morise Sampson, 29, was gunned down and killed at 915 Fifth St. by an unknown attacker, eight months after police say he was the intended victim of an Easter Sunday shooting in the same neighborhood.
He escaped that shooting unscathed. Struck instead were a toddler and a man walking with his wife.
West Palm Beach police officers responded to Monday's shooting about 7 p.m. and found the wounded Sampson in a vehicle with friends who were trying to drive him to the hospital.
An ambulance took him to St. Mary's Medical Center but he died on the way, police said.
Sampson had a lengthy arrest record, having been arrested more than 15 times in Palm Beach County on charges ranging from aggravated battery to drug possession.
On April 12, Easter Sunday, a gunman in a Chevy Impala opened fire near the intersection of Douglass Avenue and Sixth Street, striking and injuring 15-month-old Jamire Johnson and Mark Ferguson, 34. Both survived.
Police say the intended victim was Sampson. Two men were arrested in connection with that attack.
Monday's deadly shooting is still being investigated by police detectives.
