One year later: Authorities still seeking public's help in search for Lake Worth man's killer

LAKE WORTH — Forty-seven-year-old Gilberto Perez's brother found the man dead on his bedroom floor just over a year ago, but Sheriff's detectives continue to search for his killer.

Today, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office hopes to stir someone's memories, hosting a news conference and posting a Crime Stoppers poster at a bus shelter at 3801 Congress Ave. in Lake Worth.

The press conference will be held at 9 a.m. at the Quick Stop at the corner of 15th Avenue South and Dixie Highway where Perez was seen last.

Perez lived at the No. 2 apartment at 1229 South M Street in Lake Worth. He worked for the state's Department of Children and Families in West Palm Beach.

According to Sheriff's detectives, he got around town most often in cabs - he didn't have a driver license. Investigators say Perez "lived an alternative lifestyle and frequented bars of that nature in West Palm Beach, Lake Worth and Lantana."

Perez was last seen alive on the morning of June 6, 2009.

Sheriff's detectives want to speak with anyone who may have seen him between 4 p.m. Friday June 5, 2009 and 4 p.m. Saturday June 6.

Anyone who has information can contact Det. Daniel Morgado at 561-688-4102 or if you'd like to stay anonymous and be eligible for up to $1,000 REWARD call Crime Stoppers at 800-458-TIPS.
