Boca Raton, FL – Detectives from the Boca Raton Police Services Department are investigating a robbery and carjacking that occurred around 8:30 pm, Monday night. It happened at 4101 North Ocean Blvd. The victim, Herbert Goodwin, says he was returning from dinner at the Ale House on Yamato Road when he stopped at the Mobil Station at 198 West Yamato Road to buy cigarettes. He says he then proceeded directly home and entered the Sea Ranch Club from the Spanish River Blvd. entrance. He says he remembers seeing another car pull up to the gate as he passed through.
As Goodwin was getting ready to exit his 2010 black convertible Mustang, he was approached on the driver’s side by a black male who pointed a black semi-automatic handgun at him and shouted “Give me your money.” Goodwin gave the suspect cash and complied with the suspect’s demand for his keys. Goodwin walked away and was not physically injured. When he turned around, he noticed another black male in the passenger’s seat of his car. He quickly used his cell phone to call 911.
A deputy from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office later attempted a traffic stop on the stolen vehicle in Pompano Beach. The occupants bailed out of the vehicle, which came to rest against a small silver car. Three of the occupants escaped on foot, the fourth, Demetrious Philpart was detained, but has not been charged.
The two suspects who robbed and carjacked Goodwin are described as black males, one tall with short cropped hair wearing black shorts and black shirt. The second suspect was heavier set, short cropped hair wearing dark pants and a shirt.
