Boynton Beach Police need the public’s assistance identifying an Ebay fraud suspect

Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man who picked up a $1,550 Western Union money transfer from a Publix at 133 N. Congress Ave., several months ago. The man is believed to be involved in a fraud that began with an advertisement on backpage.com for a 2006 Yamaha Raptor 4-wheeler. The victim said he responded to an ad for the vehicle on August 15. The seller said his name was Michael Q. Kewell and that he was a master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and stationed in McGuire, New Jersey. Kewell provided an email address and told the victim that the transaction would be done through eBay Motors.

On August 16, the victim received an email that he believed was from eBay Motors that provided instructions to wire the money through Western Union to an eBay agent with a Miami address. After the victim wired the $1,550, he could no longer get it touch with the supposed seller.

Surveillance video from Publix shows a man wearing a white Polo style shirt with dark horizontal strips, khaki or gray shorts, flip flops, a gray hat and a black messenger bag.
