Boca Raton Police need to identify man who attempted to rob Deli on the Rye in Boca Raton

On Sunday, October 23rd, at about 1:30 in the afternoon, a male tried to rob Deli on the Rye, 4311 North Federal Highway. Boca Raton Police received the call about 20 minutes later.

Officers met with the store associate who said a male entered the deli at about 1:27 p.m., walked to the rear of the store, and then approached the register located in the front of the store. The suspect placed a bag of chips on the counter and using his left hand, removed his wallet from his pocket. The suspect took a $5.00 bill from his wallet, put the wallet back in his pocket, and handed the money to the employee. When the employee opened the register, the suspect lunged across the counter and tried to grab money from the cash drawer. The employee briefly struggled with the suspect and was able to push the suspect’s hand away and slammed the register drawer shut with her hip.

The employee called for the owner, who was a short distance away. As the owner approached the register, the suspect pointed his right hand, which was wrapped in a black towel and possibly concealed a weapon, at the owner. The suspect left the deli and walked south towards NW 43rd Street, with the owner following. The suspect told the owner, “If you follow me, I’ll put a cap in you.” The owner returned to the store. No one was injured and nothing was taken.
