PRESIDENT
BUSH RECOGNIZES NATIONAL CRIME STOPPERS MONTH
National
Crime Stoppers Month
January 2002
I
am pleased to send warm greetings to all those celebrating
January 2002 as National Crime Stoppers Month.
Every
day our Nation's communities confront crime. Tough the rate
of violent crime has decreased in recent years, America still
has one of the highest crime rates among industrialized nations.
In an effort to create safer communities, programs like Crime
Stoppers have been instrumental in bringing businesses, citizens,
and law enforcement agencies together in the fight against
crime.
Today,
there are more than 1,000 Crime Stoppers programs in the United
States. Since its founding in 1976, Crime Stoppers has helped
solve over 800,000 major crimes nationwide. By combining media
publicity, cash rewards, and the promise of anonymity, Crime
Stoppers has created a formula that encourages Americans to
get involved to help reduce crime.
My
Administration is committed to improving public safety and
encouraging public policies that prevent crime. We will always
support those who put their lives on the line to enforce the
laws and protect the innocent. I commend all those involved
in Crime Stoppers. Your work helps ensure that law-abiding
citizens are protected and that this Nation is a safer place.
Best
wishes for a successful and memorable observance.
[Signed
George W. Bush]
